Preventing Terrorism: Paving the Way to Peace With Invincible Defense TechnologyEditor's Note: Even though this article has spiritual connotations, it is intended to stir a debate on alternative methods to prevent the disease of terrorism through new means of defence and military-related technologies. All ideas and avenues must be checked in light of defence and the military rather than any spiritual and social differences that they might present. I would like to thank Maj. Gen. Kulwant Singh and Dr Leffler for submitting this article to DefenceTalk.com News. The best way to guard against terrorism is to have no enemies. No enemies equals no terrorism! Invincible Defense Technology (also known as Consciousness-Based Defense or Unified Field-Based Defense) is a scientifically validated means to prevent enemies from arising. IDT is rooted in ancient Vedic knowledge of India. This recently revived method of preventive defense promises to end terrorism. Militaries have fought terrorism through a dynamic approach, using weaponry and military personnel. Even with advanced weaponry, they cannot eliminate terrorism. Fully equipping military and police forces will not contain terrorism. Anti-terrorism experts assert that handheld, easily concealed weapons of mass destruction are available. Can terrorism be prevented with methods used in the past? Again and again, history shows that the answer is "no." Terrorism, war, and conflict are human problems. Therefore, they require human solutions. The underlying cause of social violence is accumulated social stress. If the collective social stress could be prevented, such negative problems would cease. Thus, no collective stress means no terrorism. The approach to achieve this prevention ideal is described in the Vedic literature. Heyam duhkham anagatam (Yog-Sutra, 2.16): "Avert the danger before it arises." The Yog-Sutra, 2.35 also affirms Tat sannidhau vairatyagah: "In the vicinity of Yogic influence - unifying influence, integrating influence, coherent and harmonious influence - conflicting tendencies do not arise." These ancient principles apply today. According to Vedic tradition, violence resulted from ignorance of how to prevent the build-up of collective stress. For example, the Ramayana stated that "...ignorance will have no access within eight miles from [the Yogi's hermitage]." The Ramayana also described the ancient city of Ayodhya. "Ayodhya" means "the city none can challenge in warfare." Certainly, Ayodhya relied on the conventional defense technologies of its time. For instance, "It was enclosed by strong fortifications and a deep moat, which no enemy, by any expedient whatsoever, could penetrate." Also, "Ayodhya abounded in warriors undefeated in battle, fearless and skilled in the use of arms, resembling lions guarding their mountain caves." However, the descriptions of the stress-free life of the inhabitants of Ayodhya may indicate that its first line of defense was the city's freedom from collective stress. This low stress level, based on life in harmony with Natural Law, made Ayodhya worthy of its name. Could this ideal of preventive defense again be accomplished today? Vedic scholar and physicist Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has revived the practical components of IDT, including Yogic Flying - he calls them the Transcendental Meditation (TM) and TM-Sidhi programs. These programs need not involve or require religious practices and belief. Members of many faiths worldwide have practiced these meditation techniques. Extensive scientific research documents their ability to reduce stress on the collective and individual levels. The operative part of Invincible Defense Technology requires having a Prevention Wing of the Military. The Prevention Wing would be comprised of a small part of the armed forces. This unit would create societal coherence by meditating in large groups morning and evening. Their collective practice would produce positive benefits for both themselves and their adversaries. Peaceful overtures would increase from all sides. Similar coherence-creating groups have been deployed in many war zones and conflict prone areas with great success. Extensive scientific research indicates that when the square root of 1% of the population practices the advanced TM-Sidhi program in a group, a "field effect" is created. Scientists call this field effect the "Maharishi Effect." Many carefully controlled studies have documented and validated positive social trends such as reduced conflict and lowered crime rate. These studies have been scrutinized and published in respected peer-reviewed journals such as Social Indicators Research, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Mind and Behavior and Journal of Crime and Justice. This coherence-creating effect has also been documented on a global scale in a study published in the Journal of Offender Rehabilitation. When large assemblies of practitioners of the TM-Sidhi program exceeded the Maharishi Effect threshold for the world (about 7,000 at that time) during the years 1983-1985, international conflict decreased 33%, terrorist casualties decreased 72% and violence was reduced in other nations without intrusion by other governments. Invincible Defense Technology is a force multiplier because it would create coherence for the entire military and the whole country, thus making everyone's jobs easier. While the majority of the military would continue the dynamic approach (weaponry, equipment, training), the minority would implement Invincible Defense Technology. Defense of each nation will be perfect, thus invincible, when both these approaches are combined. Militaries cannot solve the problem of terrorism by standard military means alone. The military also needs a silent approach, which will make fertile ground for sowing the seeds of peace. Each nation must each deploy a Prevention Wing of the Military immediately to achieve true invincibility and permanent peace. Regional security through Invincible Defense Technology will pave the way for world peace. Invincible Defense Technology is the only scientifically validated means to prevent terrorism. There are no peer-reviewed studies that show that strategies and tactics such as military bombing prevent terrorism. Invincible Defense Technology has been deployed successfully by the armies of two countries.
