Utilizing Powerful Peace-Creating Technologies to Combat Cyber Warfare

By Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Kulwant Singh and Dr. David Leffler

Imagine an approach to peace so powerful that it can prevent cyber warfare, plus all other types of terrorism and warfare.

This approach utilizes large groups of peace-creating experts practicing ancient technologies of consciousness that harness the most powerful level of nature’s functioning – the unified field described by superstring theory. Research published in peer-reviewed journals indicates that such groups can effectively defuse and prevent social problems like crime, war and terrorism.

The report “Tech 2035: Future Technology, Future Power in Asia, and Future Intelligence Challenges” states:

In a world where highly lethal, potentially anonymous weapons can be obtained by almost anyone who wants them, the only effective defense is to detect a pending attack and intervene before it can be carried out. That requires constant, global vigilance as close as possible to the individual level. A single terrorist plot, overlooked, could result not in hundreds or thousands of deaths, but in tens of thousands. An adversary’s capacity for high-tech combat, if underestimated, could cost tens of thousands of battlefield casualties, and perhaps lose a war. [1]

Libertarians argue that such a strategy would interfere with our basic human right to privacy that we value in a free society. The authors concede that the strategy of global vigilance as close to the individual level as possible certainly may prevent attacks. However, it will never stop all of them. History shows that enemies will always find a weakness and exploit it. The serious concerns raised by recent cyber attacks demonstrate that if even one clever individual in a world of six billion people stages just one successful attack, the consequences could be dire. No known global vigilance system will be good enough to filter out this person before he or she does grave harm.

Clearly a new strategy is necessary

Despite our advanced technology and valiant efforts, we struggle to eliminate terrorism by utilizing strategies and tactics that largely ignore terrorism’s fundamental cause. Terrorism, war, conflict and crime are human problems requiring human solutions. The underlying cause of these and other types of social violence is, primarily, accumulated social stress.

Therefore, to eliminate such social problems, we need to reduce collective societal stress. No collective stress means no tension between the United States and other countries, terrorist groups (internal or external), or individual insurgents, therefore, no terrorism. Extensive research [2] indicates that the best way to reduce collective societal stress, and thereby snuff out terrorism and war, is by adopting an ancient strategy: “Avert the danger that has not yet come.” [3] Prevent an enemy for arising. This strategy was known in the Vedic tradition of ancient India, and practical approaches were available to achieve it. This tradition is still alive today.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, a well known expert in the Vedic tradition, revived this ancient approach called Invincible Defense Technology (IDT) in a non-religious manner. Although similar technologies in the past were often associated with particular religions, his non-religious version has been quietly and successfully used during the past few decades by members of many faiths to eliminate conflict. By applying this human resource-based technology, which is non-lethal and non-destructive, the US Department of Defense (DoD) and related security agencies could reduce tensions and control terrorism, including cyber warfare.

Presently, the DoD, like other militaries, uses defense systems that are based on chemical technologies, biological technologies and electronic technologies. Cyber warfare is no different because it is based on electromagnetic technologies. The chart below illustrates that invincibility cannot be obtained on this level.

The unified field is much more powerful than all other levels of technologies of defense. Harvard-trained quantum physicist Dr. John Hagelin, who has conducted pioneering research at CERN (the European Center for Particle Physics) and SLAC (the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) and is responsible for the development of a highly successful grand unified field theory based on the Superstring, explains:

The technology of the unified field…is vastly more powerful than any previous level of defensive technology. The unique power of the unified field and of technologies of the unified field reveals that invincibility in nature is only available at the superunified scale. Figure 2 shows the hierarchical structure of natural law, from fundamentally unified to superficially diverse at the macroscopic levels of nature’s functioning, and reveals that invincibility is not found at any of the more superficial levels of natural law. Invincibility in nature only exists at the level of the unified field. [4]

If the US were to harness the power of the unified field through IDT, the nation would rise quickly towards invincibility. This approach eliminates the enmity of the enemies. With no enmity between them, former enemies become allies, and the nations become invincible because there are no enemies to fight.

A coherence-creating IDT group may be a realistic approach to the goal of national security and invincibility. This group could be comprised of members of the military (a “Prevention Wing of the Military”), a group of civilians, or a group combining the two. For instance, Ecuador’s “Project: Coherence,” introduced by then Vice-Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Villamil, [5] utilized both military and civilian personnel. Coherence-creating groups are trained in the primary techniques of IDT – the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program and its advanced practice, the TM-Sidhi program – and then they regularly practice these techniques together, morning and evening.

According to the research, the size of the group needed to reduce social stress depends on the size of the population, with the minimum number to create clear effects being the square root of one percent of the population. To calculate this number, multiply the population size by 0.01, and then take the square root of this number. For instance, the U.S. has a population of approximately 307 million: 307,271,000 x 0.01 = 3,072,710, and the square root of 3,072,710 is approximately 1,753, so a group of 1,753 IDT experts would theoretically be the minimum size to produce significant reductions in terrorism and conflict in the United States. The group size needed to affect the world is currently about 8,235. [6] However, even larger groups would be safer because engineers who build structures for maximum human safety regularly “over-engineer” their creations out of concern for unanticipated variables. The same rationale holds for engineering a lasting peace particularly in volatile regions like the Middle East.

Studies show that when this minimal threshold is crossed, crime goes down, quality of life indices go up, and war and terrorism abate. Scientists named this phenomenon the Maharishi Effect in honor of Maharishi, who first predicted it. For instance, a Maharishi Effect intervention was implemented and studied in Washington, D.C., in 1993. Predictions were lodged in advance with government leaders and newspapers. The research protocol was approved by an independent Project Review Board. Crime fell 24 percent below the predicted level when the coherence-creating group reached its maximum number of participants. Temperature, weekend effects, and previous trends in the data failed to account for the observed changes in crime rates. This research was published in the peer-reviewed journal Social Indicators Research. [7]

How Does Invincible Defense Technology Work?

Over 50 studies have shown that IDT works to lower crime, aggression, war deaths, etc. and to improve the quality of life in society. The causal mechanism has been postulated to be a field effect of consciousness – a kind of spillover effect produced by enlivenment of the unified field by the peace-creating group spilling over into the larger population. Some support for this explanation comes from a study published in the Journal of Social Behavior and Personality. [8] Research on the neurotransmitter serotonin has shown it to be associated with a state of physical and mental well-being. Indications of low levels of serotonin activity correlate with violence, aggression, and negative mood states. The IDT study showed that an increase in the numbers of IDT experts practicing in groups correlated with an increase in serotonin among non-TM-practicing community members several miles away for the group. These results were statistically highly significant and supported a causality model. This finding may offer a plausible neurophysiologic mechanism to explain reduced hostility and aggression in society at large.

The experience of a 4th state of consciousness (transcendental consciousness) in the advanced TM practitioner appears to be associated with an increase in serotonin activity and a decrease in the stress-related hormone cortisol. As far as scientists can speculate, the experience of transcendental consciousness during the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique produces coherence in the brain of the TM practitioners (even more powerfully in a group) and creates an influence that spreads throughout the unified field. Physicists have derived unified field theories indicating that this unified field underlies everything in the material and mental universe. The study suggests that when practitioners of the TM-Sidhi program go deep in meditation in the group, enlivening the experience of transcendental consciousness, there is increased serotonin and EEG coherence not only in each individual in the group but also in the non-TM practitioners outside the group. Serotonin may be materially involved in this increased coherence. This research was referenced in a more comprehensive paper published by the Security and Political Risk Analysis (SAPRA) think tank that puts the findings in a more elaborate context. [9]

On the left, an external magnetic field penetrates an ordinary conductor whose electrons behave in a chaotic or disorderly way. On the right, the external magnetic field is excluded from the interior of a super-conductor whose electrons function in a coherent collective manner—invincibility.
The Maharishi Effect creates invincible “national armor” that cannot be penetrated by the collective negativity of other countries.

Theoretical physicists allude to the unified field as the basis of all laws of nature. IDT appears to work from this fundamental level. In fact, the Vedic tradition considers this state of transcendental consciousness to be a unified field of consciousness. The Maharishi Effect is observed when the collective consciousness of society is made more coherent through IDT. In 2007, Dr. John Hagelin, Executive Director of the International Center for Invincible Defense in New York City, addressed UN ambassadors, government leaders, and the world press to call for establishing in every country a group of experts in IDT to render every country impervious to attack. “This is science – this is not a fanciful dream,” Dr. Hagelin declared. “I am speaking of a new approach to national security and invincibility that is based on the latest discoveries of quantum physics, physiology, and neuroscience, and which has been validated by extensive published scientific research. This new scientific approach provides a practical, proven solution to the problems of violence and conflict – and ensures that every government can immediately secure the safety and security of its people.” A video of Dr. Hagelin (1:13:00) explaining the scientific research on IDT is available online at: http://www.invincibledefense.org/videos/2007_04_11_hagelin.html. Examples

Mozambique used IDT to end its civil war in the 1990s. Recently, civilians in the Netherlands quietly formed a large enough group of IDT experts to achieve the Maharishi Effect. Civilian groups in Bolivia, Trinidad and Tobago, Columbia, and Peru have also taken responsibility for building sufficiently large groups. The United States is very close to maintaining the requisite number of IDT experts through the Invincible America Assembly [10] in Fairfield, Iowa.

The pilot project in Mozambique dissolved after the UN broke up the military as part of the civil war treaty. High school students, who will graduate and move on, make up the bulk of the practitioners in Columbia. Limited economic opportunities in Iowa have hindered the development of a permanent group in the United States. Non-government-funded groups may not be reliable over the long term.

The DoD and related security agencies are responsible for protecting the nation, and are obligated to thoroughly examine realistic, scientifically verified methods for ending war and terrorism. Since they are funded and their personnel are paid to perform their duties, they are not subject to the fluctuations of donors, jobs, graduations, and optional activities. Because the departments are paid to protect the nation, it is entirely appropriate for them to fund and staff “A Group for a Government.”

IDT Group Size vs. Quality of Life in Israel

Daily Time Series of the IDT Group Size and the Composite Quality of Life Index. These two plots show the direct relation between the IDT group size and a quality of life index.

Quality of life in Israel improved and intensity of the conflict in Lebanon decreased in direct proportion to the number of Invincible Defense Technology experts in the coherence-creating group (Journal of Conflict Resolution, 1988, vol. 32, #4, pp. 776-812). Editor’s Note Update: Listen to Huffpost Live TV: A Solution for Terrorism: a televised interview with Dr. John Hagelin, Bob Roth, and Col. Brian Rees, M.D., December 16, 2015 (30:00) for a explanation of the importance of this peer-reviewed research.

A Paradigm Shift, In Progress

Dr. Carla Brown examined bias against the unconventional approach of IDT in her Harvard doctoral dissertation, [11] which explored whether and how members of the Middle East policy community applied truth and utility tests to research findings. The study she used had been published in the Journal of Conflict Resolution, showing a dramatic 45 percent reduction in war intensity and 75 percent reduction in war deaths when a critical mass of experts practiced IDT in large groups. Brown found that several respondents in each elite group that she interviewed were likely to examine a similar paper in the future, motivated in part by their examination of the quality of science involved. She also explored how some of her interviewees did not take the effort to examine the research, including some social scientists who were critical of the research. Brown explored means for overcoming barriers to the use of this research, including prejudice. At a time when the research outcomes described are greatly needed, this paper may provide context for those who want to understand their own prejudice or built-in reservations. This paper helps security experts better understand how the barriers to IDT can be addressed and why the technology is difficult for many to accept. Brown’s research was published in the Journal of Social Behavior and Personality. [12]

A prevention-oriented paradigm shift is taking place in the US military. “We believe that preventing wars is as important as winning wars,” [13] according to a new strategy announced by the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard in October 2007. This is the biggest revision of US naval strategy in 25 years, focusing more on humanitarian missions and improving international cooperation.

Coauthor Dr. David Leffler, the Executive Director at the Center for Advanced Military Science (CAMS) gave a briefing about Invincible Defense Technology in 2008 as a prevention-oriented Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) strategy at a conference for military and law enforcement-related personnel in Washington, D.C. The conference was sponsored by Marcus Evans Defense, and it was called, “The Fifth Annual Countering IEDs: Assessing the IED Threat and its Evolution on the Battlefield and in the Homeland.” He explained how IDT is the best “left of the boom” strategy. “If an IED attack were placed on a timeline, IDT would be furthest to the left of the boom (explosion) because IDT prevents enemies from arising,” said Dr. Leffler “No enemies, no IEDs.” The presentation was well received and CAMS International Advisor German Air Force Lt. Col. (Ret.) Gunter Chassé has been invited to present on this topic to NATO and EU leaders at the “Countering IEDs Europe” conference in the Berlin, Germany, on 22-22 October 2009. [14]

From the U.S. Army side, Colonel Brian M. Rees, M.D., M.P.H., Medical Corps, US Army Reserve completed his Masters research paper at the US Army War College on the topic of IDT called “The Applications of Strategic Stress Management [SSM] in Winning the Peace.” [15] The paper concluded that “SSM [IDT] has demonstrated efficacy when addressing the nefarious activities of criminals and terrorists, as well as the legal violence of combatants.” Col. Rees has given IDT presentations to the Proteus Management Group at the US Army War College, [16] and the Association of Military Surgeons of the U.S. (AMSUS). [17] Dr. Rees and Dr. Leffler recently presented at the International Sociological Association Research Committee 01 Seoul National University & Korea Military Academy International Conference on Armed Forces & Conflict Resolution in a Globalized World. [18] The presentations explained how IDT could help soldiers suffering from stress-related problems like Post-Traumatic Stress and reduce collective societal stress responsible for terrorism and war. At the time of this writing, tensions are high in the Middle East. Even if the leaders of Israel, Lebanon and Palestine do not quickly act to implement IDT, the US government can move in to end conflict, in a non-invasive way. IDT need not be employed in exact proximity of conflict or potential conflict. However, best results occur when the system is deployed within local political boundaries of the prejudiced area(s). Simultaneously, deployment of IDT within more inclusive boundaries (e.g., regional or countrywide) also creates positive effects across the larger boundaries.

IDT achieves best operating characteristics when all participants comprise one group within close association of each other (proximity averaging 1.5 meters between participants). However, positive effects will still be attained when participants operate in several smaller groups. For this reason, sea-based Prevention Wings are theoretically possible. For instance, the US carrier Kitty Hawk (CV-63) supported 1,000 Special Operations Forces on board for its mission in Afghanistan. [19] Therefore, carrier battle groups supporting IDT experts could be deployed to the Persian Gulf to reduce tensions in the entire Middle East (approximate population = 800 million; 1% of population = 8 million; square root of 8 million = 2829 IDT experts needed to achieve the Maharishi Effect.)

It behooves the DoD and related security agencies to apply this scientific research by creating Prevention Wings of the Military and/or other similar coherence creating groups to prevent not only cyberwar, but all war, conflict, crime and terrorism.

QUOI DE NEUF? — L’ANALYSE DES RÉCENTS ÉVÉNEMENTS “LE PROJET COHÉRENCE” – LA DÉFENSE INVINCIBLE -UNE TECHNOLOGIE MISE EN PRATIQUE

New Delhi, 29 janvier 2003

Invincibility Arises From A Coherent Source

Invincible Defense
A New “Secret Weapon!”

After Mozambique’s civil war, the economy boomed, and the crime rate decreased. President Alberto Joachim Chissano attributed the war’s demise and these other positive trends largely to new human resource technology he called a “new secret weapon.” He and many other military leaders are convinced that these changes occurred from the implementation of this new technology.

Surprisingly, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Mozambique added another duty which involved a human resource-based technology. The Joint Chiefs assured selected military units of the Mozambique Ground, Naval and Air Forces that this radically different approach could unite the national spirit and prevent the civil war from flaring up again. At the same time, the new technology would prevent enemies outside the country from attacking. Even more surprising, the new “weapon” turned out to be a simple meditation technique practiced by groups of soldiers twice daily.

In the beginning, conventional military strategists scoffed at the novel strategy. However, today, due to Mozambique’s success on many fronts, other governments may be attracted to the new strategy. The Mozambique military may have harnessed universal laws of nature. The basic principle is seen in physical systems. Certain “internally” coherent systems have the ability to protect themselves against disruptive influences, while “incoherent” systems are easily penetrated by disorder from the outside.

Invincibility Arises From A Coherent Source

One example of such an “invincible shield” is the Meissner Effect (see figure). It takes place at the quantum level of superconductivity. In a superconductor, the coherent functioning of the electrons spontaneously excludes an external, disruptive magnetic field. This system maintains its impenetrable status because no random or chaotic activity can take place within it. Ordinary electrical conductors are not impenetrable because the random activity of incoherent and disordered electrons allows penetration of an external magnetic field.

On the left, an external magnetic field penetrates an ordinary conductor whose electrons behave in a chaotic or disorderly way. On the right, the external magnetic field is excluded from the interior of a super-conductor whose electrons function in a coherent collective manner-invincibility. The Maharishi Effect is societal coherence created by Invincible Defense Technology. The Maharishi Effect creates invincible “national armor” that cannot be penetrated by the collective negativity of other countries.

Physics Describes the Unified Field

Research in theoretical physics during the past decade has led to a progressively more unified understanding of profound and powerful laws of nature, culminating in the recent discovery of completely unified field theories. These theories locate a single field of intelligence at the basis of all matter and force fields in the universe. In this field, all the known fundamental forces of nature (the weak force, the strong force, the electromagnetic force, and gravitation) are unified.

Can the Unified Field be Harnessed?

Could this field of intelligence be tapped? Modern theorists have long puzzled over consciousness and its relationship to physics. To ancient societies, there was no puzzle: a coherent human mind was able to contact deeper levels of nature-levels that we would now place in the realm of quantum mechanics. Some modern physicists hold that the mind, and/or consciousness, can be located at the quantum mechanical level. If this is correct, then the mind has the ability to connect with more subtle levels of nature. Perhaps this is the secret underlying the technology used by Mozambique’s military.

Overcoming an Enemy Through A Technology Of The Unified Field

Research conducted by nearly 50 investigators representing 17 universities and research institutes indicates the immense power of the collective mind could be used not only to end a conflict, but also to prevent an enemy from arising in the first place. As unusual as this strategy may seem, a similar approach is gaining momentum in health care. Wise health care providers emphasize prevention-oriented strategies because preventing illness from arising is more cost-effective than to dealing with it once it has arisen. Might it be reasonable for any nation’s military to adopt this strategy to prevent terrorism, war and conflict?

The answer now appears to be “yes.” Published scientific research indicates that any military can collectively create harmony and orderliness in society. Society exhibits its own collective spirit-which can have varying degrees of orderliness. Compare the American spirit after Pearl Harbor with the lack of it during the Vietnam conflict. Past experience worldwide shows that the spirit of the people is a powerful strategic asset.

Over 50 scientific studies indicate that the approach described above can increase orderliness and harmony in society. The results of these tests are too far-reaching to be explained by field effects associated with any of the four basic forces of nature, leading researchers to conclude that they arise from a more profound level-possibly the unified field of all the laws of nature.

Transcendental Meditation

The specific meditation techniques applied in Mozambique were the Transcendental Meditation (TM) and TM-Sidhi programmes. These simple, natural mental procedures apparently harness the unified field’s organizing power. The positive effects of these programmes have been documented in over fifty scientific studies. Many have appeared in leading peer-reviewed journals, such as The Journal of Conflict Resolution, Social Indicators Research, International Journal of Neuroscience, The Journal of Crime and Justice, and The Journal of Mind and Behavior.

The TM and TM-Sidhi programmes originate in the ancient Vedic tradition of India. More than five million people worldwide have learned it, including members of all religions and walks of life. Practice of the TM programme does not require changing one’s religious beliefs, dress, diet or personal attitude. Over forty years ago, scientist and educator Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who is responsible for reviving the technique, predicted that a small fraction of the population could improve the quality of life for everyone simply by meditating twice a day. The tremendous strategic advantage that could be gained by implementing a unified field based technology to augment existing defence systems should not be overlooked.

The 1% And The Square Root of 1% Formulas

Over the years, published studies have documented societal changes due to practice of the TM programme. The changes include: reductions in war deaths and improvements in economic conditions, improved quality of life as well as reductions in crime, violence, accidents, and illness. These changes in social indicators all occurred when the number of meditators reached about 1% of the population in the area under study, whether a city, a province, or a nation. The studies involving participants in the more advanced TM-Sidhi programme showed similar results when only approximately the square root of 1% of the population were practicing the technique together in one place.

The Square Root of 1% of the Population, practicing the TM-Sidhi Program, Creates Social Coherence

In the early 1980’s, research revealed that coherence-creating groups collectively practicing the TM-Sidhi programme in Israel and other countries reduced the war deaths in Lebanon by 71%, war injuries by 68%, and the level of conflict by 48%, and cooperation among antagonists rose by 66%.

Quality of life in Israel, including intensity of the conflict in Lebanon, improves in direct proportion to the number of participants in the coherence-creating group. Journal of Conflict Resolution, 32(4), 776–812.

Coherence

This coherence-creating effect was first predicted by Maharishi years before scientific studies came along to support his prediction. He based this prediction on the knowledge contained in the ancient Vedic literature and on discussions with physicists about the coherent effects observed in physical systems such as the laser.

Laser light is much more powerful than light emitted from a conventional source. Astronauts on the moon could not see the millions of watts of conventional light illuminating New York City at night. However, they were able to see laser light originating from the earth at levels as low as 15 watts. This is the average energy output of a night-light! Why was the much dimmer 15 watt laser light visible, but the millions of watts originating from whole cities on Earth were not? The coherent light of a laser is different from conventional light. The intensity of normal light is emitted in direct proportion to the number of atoms involved. Excited atoms emit photons while returning to the ground state. This light is emitted at various frequencies in different directions, producing what a physicist would call “incoherent” light, all mixed up. In a laser, however, a type of collective behavior distinguished by its orderliness emerges. The atoms are in perfect correlation with each other and no longer act independently. They operate together as one complete and coherent system. The result is that the intensity of the light emitted by a number of atoms, N, increases tremendously, actually in proportion to N squared. If 100 atoms are perfectly in phase with one another in the laser, they will radiate with an intensity of 100 squared, or 10,000 times that of a single atom.

Illustration of Conventional Light and Laser Light

Research indicates that a similar quantum field effect appears to be created in the group during group practice of the TM-Sidhi program. The influence of this coherence radiates from the group to society. A simple analogy can be used to understand this concept. Imagine a large tank of water that is filled with floating corks all at rest. Grasping and bobbing just one of the corks up and down in the water create waves. These waves spread and in turn cause the others corks to start bobbing.

If Collective Consciousness Is Turbulent, Society Is Disorderly

The abilities of individuals or groups practicing the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi techniques to reduce violence and war can be viewed from another perspective. Scientists postulate that every society has a collective consciousness. This collective consciousness is the sum of all the influences created by the individual members of that society. This collective consciousness, in turn, affects the thoughts and feelings of those same individuals. If the collective consciousness is turbulent and stressed, full of tension and fear, then disorder is liable to erupt in violence and warfare. Social injustice and unfavorable economic conditions thrive in disorderly environments. Religious, territorial, political and cultural differences are seized upon and used to further contribute to unrest. Thus the frustrated and dissatisfied population of any country contributes to its instability and disorder. Therefore, the build-up of friction in the nation becomes dangerous to its sovereignty, producing an unstable government that is more prone to war. Disorder can take the form of civil strife or of tension and conflict with neighboring countries. If a war between two nations, a civil war, or even a coup d’état, occurs, other groups or nations can exacerbate the situation as they take advantage of the situation. The reign of terror in France in the 1790’s and Germany in the 1930’s are among many historical examples of collective stress driving social disorder and spilling out into other nations.

The Military leaders of Mozambique, Leading Military Innovators

Concern over such disorder in their country prompted Mozambique’s military leaders to deploy their secret weapon. They were trailblazers who applied this human-resource technology to increase coherence in the collective consciousness in their country. Obviously, this approach has not been widely accepted in military circles. Even though defensive radar systems routinely radiate electromagnetic waves over a hundred miles, the idea that human mind could have a similar effect-at-a-distance and could be used to create a defence system is novel. Many defence strategists see the mind and brain as the same. Consciousness is viewed as being trapped inside the head. The possibility that the proper collective use of the human minds of our military personnel could create a much more powerful and profound field effect has not been widely explored.

This is a revolutionary concept. But so were the ideas for many other aspects of our defence systems that are now considered vital. For instance, although the breech-loading rifle was far superior to muzzle loaders, it took years for armies to adopt. Even more extreme is the example of airpower. Few leaders thought that Billy Mitchell would bomb and sink mighty battleships with flimsy flying machines made out of wood, cloth, and baling wire. Military history has shown that new scientific technologies can give a strategic advantage, even at a distance. We need only look to the radar “shield” deployed in England during World War II. It maximized the fighting power of the under-sized Royal Air Force.

Many of today’s “tried and proven” technologies were yesterday’s pipe dreams. Mozambique may have secured a prominent place in military history. After the programme was underway in 1993, positive trends were noticed. Peace was maintained. Crime, which is normally expected to increase at the end of a war, actually decreased, as predicted by Maharishi Effect scientists. The next year, the military began to be demobilized. Lt. General Tobias Dai, then Commander of the Armed Forces (now the Defence Minister), noticed a sudden change. “What is very clear is that once the positive effect is created, if group practice is stopped, the previous tendencies of higher collective stress, as determined from the crime indexes and the tense situations in the country, began to rise again. In 1994, there was a remarkable decrease in coherence in the country as a result of decreased participation in the group practice of the Transcendental Meditation and TM-Sidhi Programme…”

Dai attributed the dip in coherence to the demobilization of the troops and anticipated ending of TM courses for future police officers. Dai also said in 1994 that “until now, although with several difficulties, the maintenance of peace has been possible during these 2 years, and free and just elections have been carried out…” Coherence-creating groups of meditators were re-created. A year later, the US National Defence council dropped Mozambique from the list of conflicts in the world, and stability has since been sustained. Perhaps it will not be long before Mozambique’s military leaders are ranked along with other pioneers such as the Italian airpower advocate Giulio Douhet. General Douhet’s strategy still applies today: “Victory smiles upon those who anticipate the change in the character of war, not upon those who wait to adapt themselves after the changes occur.” In the tradition of military pioneers, the militaries of other African countries could conduct their own coherence-creating groups which could hasten the progress of another dream–the prevention of terrorism, war and conflict.

Sometimes major discoveries take time to be fully accepted and used. Nevertheless, these examples in human history should be a lesson so as to avoid committing new mistakes. Let us recall that history is made by those who, in life, think beyond their contemporaries.”

Defense Minister of Mozambique

Prevention Wings of the Military–Avert the Danger Before It Comes

The coherence-creating effects of this novel technology and its ability to reduce collective stress could easily be tested by other military research institutions. Such an experiment would be conducted by creating more “Prevention Wings of the Military” in Africa. Research indicates that the effect of introducing a coherent system of this magnitude would be enough to significantly reduce the collective stress in Africa.

Threats To Peace Greater than Ever

The post-USSR world has proven to be a more dangerous place than one might have imagined. There are no well-defined opponents. Nuclear weapons from the former Soviet arsenal and other weapons of mass destruction are allegedly available on the black market. No other military strategy effectively copes with the possibility of even one weapon winding up in the wrong hands. The terrorist attacks of September 11th and recent anthrax scare in the United States prove that no nation is safe.

New defense technologies must be continually evaluated and deployed to deal with such threats. The human resource-based technology outlined above has been successfully field-tested. Prevention Wings of the Military can be deployed quickly, and inexpensively, and deliver quantifiable results.

Victory Before War!

Warriors since ancient Chinese General Sun Tzu have championed the idea of winning without fighting. In his famous treatise The Art of War, Sun Tzu said: “To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting.” What the ancients called a clever fighter is one who not only wins, but excels in winning with ease. He wins his battles by making no mistakes. Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated.

Following the successes of Mozambique’s “Prevention Wing of the Military,” more countries may soon apply this strategy to create the highest ideal of military service: Invincibility without harm for military personnel or the nation; and lasting peace for the world-victory before war.

Many independent scientists have examined the research on the Invincible Defense Technology, including neuroscientists, psychologists, sociologists, and statisticians. Here are some of their comments:

“This work…deserves the most serious consideration.”

“The claim can be plausibly made that the potential impact of this research exceeds that of any other ongoing social or psychological research program. The research has survived a broader array of statistical tests than most research in the field of conflict resolution. I think this work, and the theory that informs it, deserve the most serious consideration by academics and policy makers alike.”

“We have to take these studies seriously.”

“In the studies that I have examined on the impact of the Maharishi Effect [Invincible Defense Technology] on conflict, I can find no methodological flaws, and the findings have been consistent across a large number of replications in many different geographical and conflictual situations. As unlikely as the premise may sound, I think we have to take these studies seriously.”

“The work was sound.”

“The hypothesis definitely raised some eyebrows among our reviewers. But the statistical work is sound. The numbers are there. When you can statistically control for as many variables as these studies do, it makes the results much more convincing. This evidence indicates that we now have a new technology to generate peace in the world.”

“An impressive, statistically significant correlation.”

“The data show an impressive, statistically significant correlation: a decrease in violent crime for the time period over which the group meditated. An impressive number of variables were considered in analyzing the data, and I am satisfied that the research team made a serious effort to examine the data in the light of numerous other possible influences.”

Beverly Rubik, Ph.D., biophysicist and Director of the Center for Frontier Sciences at Temple University

“A new paradigm of viewing crime and violence.”

“I want to express my support for this research. What we really are looking at here I think is a new paradigm of viewing crime and violence, and the new paradigm says, look to the individual acting in concert with other individuals to reduce crime constructively. . . . Having worked extensively on social problems in the District of Columbia for some 24 years at the University of District of Columbia . . . I’d like to encourage taking this new idea very seriously. . . . I would like to recommend that this new model that is being offered and advanced here, after a number of exhaustive and very carefully controlled studies, be considered, and that we think about ways that it might be implemented in the inner city with youth and community people who live there.”

“Sound results which demand serious interest”

“I was initially skeptical, but having studied the research completed to date, I have concluded that these studies on the Maharishi Effect [Invincible Defense Technology] have subjected theory to proper empirical tests. They have shown sound results which demand serious interest. This method should be applied more widely in programs to reduce crime.”

“This research…demands action”

“I have been following the research on the Maharishi Effect [Invincible Defense Technology] as it has developed over the last twenty years. There is now a strong and coherent body of evidence showing that [this approach] provides a simple and cost-effective solution to many of the social problems we face today. This research and its conclusions are so strong, that it demands action from those responsible for government policy.”

Brazilian Warriors Learn Maharishi’s Invincible Defense Technology as Part of Their Training

Extensive scientific research shows that, through the Transcendental Meditation® program, practitioners experience greater calm, clearer perception, broader comprehension, greater alertness, and faster reactions. The Transcendental Meditation program complements the warriors’ training.

Between 1987 and 1988 a number of Brazilian state governments introduced the Transcendental Meditation program to their military police. More than twenty-six thousand police officers of all ranks were instructed. Military Police work is often dangerous and extremely stressful.

Military Police meditating in a highly acclaimed program of meditation for Military Police, 1987-88.

The increasing demands of contemporary military police work are reflected in the many stress-related problems experienced by such personnel, including psychosomatic disease, high suicide rates, high divorce rates, reduced life span, increased disciplinary problems and poor community relations. Maharishi’s Invincible Defence Technology is a holistic program which eliminates these stress-related problems and unfolds the warrior’s full potential.
